TDG has evolved from supplying retrofits to specializing in LED innovations. We carry a full line of LED, fluorescent, and halogen lighting.
And we serve the whole range of rail and locomotive vehicles, both old and new, by adapting our LED solutions to fit new car builds, retrofits, and drop-ins.
Products showcased are examples of a whole host of options possible through TDG's ongoing drive to adapt, perfect, and innovate.
TDG has ramped up design and build of LED lighting to form 80% of our product complement. This is the highest proportion in the industry.
So why is LED technology so important for the environment?
LED lighting uses over 80% less power than incandescent lamps and 10 to 40% compared with various fluorescent types. This drastically reduces costs for auxiliary diesel generator fuel and electricity in times of high oil and energy prices.
All fluorescent lamps, including compact fluorescent, contain mercury and require hazardous material disposal fees. And our LED lighting solutions last much longer than fluorescent lamps.
As the trend towards convenience outlets rises, so does the need for saving power to divert to these outlets. And now it's ever more important to extend the life of aging rail stock as environmental and economic concerns rise.
Most of TDG’s LED lighting systems last over 100,000 hours, and our main LED lighting lasts over 200,000 hrs. This means our lighting won't need replacing until mid-life overhauls or, in some cases, for the life of the car or locomotive!
And how does this compare to incandescent and fluorescent bulbs?
A TDG LED fixture lasts longer than 1,000 heavy service 50-watt incandescent bulbs.
And it's six times more energy-efficient than a heavy service incandescent bulb.
Clients obtain 25% more efficiency than from a compact fluorescent bulb (when compared to a standard compact florescent 13-watt bulb).
And you gain 10% more efficiency over a T8 fluorescent tube (when compared to a standard FO23/741 lamp).
TDG insists on the best lenses for LEDs. We source transit grade polycarbonate lenses that self-extinguish. These meet the most stringent NFPA 130 standards and in some cases, those for DIN 5510-2 Flame, Smoke and Toxicity.
TDG's products are fully proven in service, so buyers are assured of consistent high quality without feeling like "test subjects".
TDG is fully conversant with North American and European emergency safety standards. We have been invited to sit on various APTA Safety Committees for over 3 decades.
Our fixtures as a system meet or exceed the APTA Normal and Emergency Lighting Standards for illumination, durability and performance. We also meet or exceed Flame, Smoke and Toxicity Standards (NFPA 130:2010).
These are the passenger rail and locomotive standards continually addressed in our lighting solutions:
